Alan O'Day (2007)

Alan O'Day (* 3. October 1940 as Alan O'Day Earl in Hollywood , California ; † 17th May 2013 in Westwood , Los Angeles ) was an American singer and - songwriter . His greatest success, his own composition Undercover Angel , was number one in the American singles charts in 1977 and was awarded gold. In addition, he did not have another Top 40 hit as a singer, which is why he is considered a one-hit wonder in the USA .

life and career

As a songwriter for other artists, however, he achieved further successes: Among other things, he wrote Rock and Roll Heaven by The Righteous Brothers or the US number one hit Angie Baby by Helen Reddy . Both songs were released in 1974. He wrote other hits on the Billboard charts for Bobby Sherman , Mark Lindsay , The 5th Dimension , Sylvia Robinson , Cher , Travis Wammack , Gene Pitney and Johnny Mathis . One of his better-known compositions is Easy Evil , which was recorded by artists as diverse as Sarah Vaughan , Nancy Wilson , Captain & Tennille , Larry Carlton and John Travolta . In addition, world stars such as Tom Jones , Dusty Springfield and Paul Anka added songs by O'Day to their repertoire.

From the 1980s O'Day worked with the songwriter Janis Liebhart. Together they wrote numerous songs for the cartoon series Muppets Babies over the years . The couple also wrote the song There's Only One Ariel for the television series Arielle, the Mermaid .

O'Day died of cancer in 2013.
