Albemarle Corporation is an American chemical company based in Baton Rouge , Louisiana .

history

In 1887 the Albemarle Paper Manufacturing Company was founded. In 1962 she takes over the Ethyl Corporation and takes its name. In 1994 today's Albemarle Corporation is spun off.

In 2001, Albemarle took over parts of ChemFirst when they were sold to DuPont . In the same year the Martinswerk from Bergheim was bought. In 2008, the company's headquarters were moved from Richmond, Virginia to Baton Rouge.

2013 was a joint venture Jordan Bromine Company between Albemarle and Arab Potash Company founded. In 2014 the business areas of antioxidants , ibuprofen and propofol were sold to the SI Group . In January 2015, the acquisition of Rockwood Holdings was completed. Rockwood Lithium with locations in Frankfurt-Hausen and Langelsheim is one of the world's largest producers of lithium concentrates and compounds.

In August 2015 it was announced that the headquarters would be relocated back to the east coast in Charlotte (North Carolina) .

On June 17, 2016, Albemarle and BASF announced that the company Chemetall will be sold to BASF for around 3.2 billion dollars (2.8 billion euros).

The main products of the range Performance Chemicals are lithium chemicals and flame retardants on bromine . Refining Solutions manufactures catalysts . The former Chemetall division is the global market leader in surface treatment chemicals.

In addition, the intermediates 2,6-diethylaniline , 2,6-diisopropylaniline and 6-ethyl-2-toluidine are produced.
