German jazz award
The German Jazz Prize , also known as the Albert Mangelsdorff Prize , is awarded every two years to personalities who "play an important role in the development of jazz in Germany with outstanding musical achievements".

The German Jazz Prize was first awarded in 1994.
Patron saint Albert Mangelsdorff enjoyed worldwide recognition for his instrumental skills as a trombonist as well as for his compositions and conceptual perspectives. The prize aims to underline the individual artistic aspect of jazz and aims to honor outstanding and continuous performance.
Offer of a reward
The prize of 15,000 euros will be awarded by the German Jazz Union awarded and the GEMA Foundation , the German Collecting Society for Performance Rights of and the promotion and support fund German Composers Association donated. Self-application is excluded. A jury made up of representatives from radio and print media, organizers, donors, the German jazz union and an independent musician will decide independently and with no legal recourse.
Both a life's work and an artist of great current influence can be awarded. The award winner represents jazz in and from Germany on a national and international level.
