Albert Bozenhard (born February 14, 1860 in Ulm , † January 13, 1939 in Stuttgart ) was a German actor and operetta singer (baritone).

Life

At the age of 15 Bozenhard decided to become an actor. He went to Stuttgart and took dramatic lessons from the court actor Karl von Jendersky . On March 12, 1877 he made his debut as a student in Faust at the Württemberg Court Theater. He had success with the audience with his performance and received a permanent commitment, during which he mainly appeared as a “young lover”. In 1879 he moved to the German Court Theater in Petersburg. There he worked not only as an actor, but also as an operetta singer with a baritone voice . Among his most important roles were Einstein in Die Fledermaus and Ollendorf in Der Bettelstudent . From 1881 to 1884 he worked at the State Theater in Moscow.

In 1885 Bozenhard went to Hamburg and became a member of the Thalia Theater ensemble . In Hamburg Bozenhard got the nickname "Boz" or "uns' Boz". The versatile actor became very popular there, especially from 1900 to 1912 he was the most important male actor in the Thalia Theater. His main roles included Don Carlos , Mortimer, Reif-Reiflingen and Veilchenfresser. In 1905 he wrote the detective comedy Sherlock Holmes , which was performed two years later at the Hoftheater Stuttgart. He also appeared in two films, artist whims by Paul Otto (1920) and The Crash (1922). Appointed an honorary member of the Thalia Theater, he left the stage in 1930. In 1939 he passed on his actor 's ring , from then on called Albert-Bozenhard-Ring , to Ernst Leudesdorff , who has honored the most worthy actor at the Thalia Theater Hamburg to this day.

Bozenhard was married to the actress Karli Bozenhard-Hücker , whom he met at the Thalia Theater. His grave is in the Ohlsdorf cemetery in Hamburg. The Bozenhardweg in Hamburg-Hohenfelde reminds of him. In the same district, the former Bozenhardplatz was named after him.
