Albert Duchow

Albert Duchow (* 1851 in Königsberg ; † May 15, 1931 in Mannheim ) was a German church painter and restorer .

Life

Albert Duchow studied from 1877 to 1882 at the Grand Ducal Baden Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe . In 1877/78 he received a silver medal in composition there. He then worked as a church painter in Waldshut, Rastatt, Schwetzingen and Mannheim, where he also lived. He was known for his restorations of paintings from the Zopfzeit . for example in the Fridolinsmünster in Bad Säckingen. Then he worked as a restorer in the Palatinate .

His uncle was the Waldshut painter Gustav Pollikeit .

  • 1885/86 Görwihl , St. Bartholomäus, painting (removed in 1970)
  • 1887 Bad Säckingen , Fridolinsmünster, painting of the crypt
  • In 1902 he began a cycle of pictures on the life of Christ in eight stucco mirrors in the church of the Mariastein monastery . However, he only realized half of the pictures. In 1932/33 they were painted over by the Basel-based painter Lothar Albert (1902–1972).
  • Neuenburg am Rhein , Church of Our Lady, 14 Stations of the Cross (destroyed in 1940)
