Albert Häberling

Albert Häberling (born September 5, 1919 in Affoltern am Albis ; † April 8, 2012 in Uster) was a Swiss composer and conductor .

Life

He completed his studies from 1947 to 1953 at the Music Academy in Zurich with Robert Blum counterpoint and composition , school music, choir and wind orchestra direction , piano and various wind instruments .

After completing his studies, he began his musical career as a choir and orchestra conductor in Flawil , Canton St. Gallen . In 1955, as the conductor of the Stadtmusik Uster, he transformed the boys' music of that time into a music school. In 1956 he founded the Working Days for Wind Music , which then developed under the title International Festival Music Days for contemporary wind orchestra works in Uster as a global forum for contemporary wind music.

In 1958 he founded the Zurich Wind Orchestra, which was mainly used for radio productions. As the editor in charge at Radio DRS, Studio Zurich, he has made a significant contribution to the development of taste in wide circles of musicians and listeners, thus laying the groundwork for well-founded and serious work in his country's wind orchestras. He worked as a program designer and conductor from 1958 to 1984. In 1977 he was awarded the Stephan Jaeggi Prize , in 1989 he received the City of Uster's Culture Prize . In terms of composition he is close to neo-classicism.
