Albert Hayn

Albert Hayn (born September 17, 1801 in Breslau ; † October 30, 1863 ) was a German obstetrician and university professor in Königsberg i. Pr.

Life

Hayn studied medicine at the Silesian Friedrich Wilhelms University and the Julius Maximilians University . In 1822 he renounced the Corps Franconia Würzburg ; he remained in the corps as a renown philistine . He later went to the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität , where he qualified as a professor for obstetrics . In December 1830 he followed the call of the Albertus University in Königsberg as director of the midwifery school . He was first accepted as an associate professor in the medical faculty . In 1844, on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the university, he was appointed full professor at the University Women's Clinic in Königsberg. The later pathologist Ernst Christian Neumann attended his lectures on obstetrics . These records for the “Forceps Operation” course are in the manuscript department of the Göttingen State Library. In 1847 he joined the Provincial Medicinal Collegium for East and West Prussia as a medical advisor . He also read about the history of medicine . In 1860/61 he was rector of the Albertus University.

Hayn suffered from emphysema from the age of 29 , from the consequences of which he died on the return journey from Switzerland at the age of 62. In 1941 a street was named after him in the Königsberg settlement of Charlottenburg.
