Albert Hoch (* in Neustadt an der Saale ; † March 26, 1720 ) was provost of the Augustinian canons in Heidenfeld from 1692 to 1719 .

Heidenfeld before high

Hoch's predecessor, Provost Andreas IV. Deichmann, ruled the monastery when the Thirty Years War ended in 1648 . He quickly began organizing the rebuilding of the run-down community. Deichmann soon succeeded in occupying new parishes with clergymen and in bringing back estranged monastery properties. He was also the first infulierte provost of heath field. His successor Georg Bauer repaid the debts and rebuilt the farm buildings.

Life

Albert Hoch was born in Neustadt an der Saale in the 17th century. Nothing is known about the family of the future provost, they were probably respected citizens of the city. Neustadt was part of the Würzburg monastery and oriented towards the metropolis. So it is likely that Hoch, after attending a so-called Latin school , probably in Neustadt, went to the University of Würzburg to study theology.

High became canon of the Heidenfeld Abbey and quickly rose within the hierarchy of the community. He also experienced the last years of the provost Georg Bauer's office , when he had many books copied for the still destroyed monastery library. When Bauer died in November 1692, the collegiate canons elected Albert Hoch as the new head. As one of the official acts, Hoch had the library restored.

He also had the church of the monastery renovated and bought new organs for the church. A hospital and a mill were built around the actual convent building. In addition, Hoch had the wall around the buildings completed. The provost also promoted science. The historian Sebastian Degen was also part of the community, as was the later provost Sigismund Derleth , who also distinguished himself as a historiographer .

Heidenfeld Abbey was visited in 1716 and the canons and their provost received praise. However, Bishop Johann Philipp von Greiffenclau zu Vollraths still set up a commission to implement renewals. In 1718 the administration was therefore divided and Sigismund Derleth and Jakob Höpfner were appointed as procurators. Provost Albert was cautioned because he must have approached the opposite sex. As a result, Hoch renounced the provost office in 1719. He died on March 26, 1720.

coat of arms

The coat of arms in Wipfeld

The personal coat of arms of the provost Albert Hoch has only survived in one of the villages in which the canons provided the pastor. It is the rectory in Wipfeld . The coat of arms is adorned with a miter and also shows the coat of arms of the Augustinian canons themselves. Description : A crowned bird standing on a cloud, above the sun. It is a talking coat of arms that alludes to the surname Hochs. The timing is unclear.
