Albert Holfelder

Albert Holfelder (born May 21, 1903 in Vienna ; † May 3, 1968 in Mitteltal ) was an Austro-German pedagogue and senior official in the Reich Ministry of Education (REM).

Life

The civil servant and musician's son studied political science , history and philosophy in Vienna from 1921 to 1924 . In 1926 he received his doctorate under Othmar Spann on Friedrich Schelling's social teaching. He then moved to the Marburg Institute for Borderland and German Abroad and the Deutsche Burse , whose managing director under Johann Wilhelm Mannhardt he was in 1930. He corresponded with Friedrich Georg Jünger and Ernst Jünger . From 1930 to May 1933 he was Alfred Baeumler's assistant and friend at the TH Dresden, whom he accompanied to the University of Berlin. Then in March 1934 he was appointed professor at the University for Teacher Education in Kiel, and at the same time appointed by Minister Bernhard Rust to the Prussian Ministry of Culture and the Reich Ministry for Science, Education and National Education (REM). There he worked as a clerk for the universities for teacher training. In 1936 he became a ministerial advisor and from 1936 to 1938 he was head of the ministerial office in the REM. From 1938 to 1945 he was Ministerial Director of the Department of Education and Training at the REM. Until 1938 he was co-editor of the magazine Weltanschauung und Schule . On December 22, 1939, he represented the REM at the meeting in the RSHA under the direction of Reinhard Heydrich , when proposals for combating “youth neglect” were submitted, which resulted in the establishment of youth concentration camps. Holfelder belonged to the SD in the RSHA.

In 1953 Holfelder became head editor for education at the textbook publisher Westermann in Braunschweig and editor of the series "Basic topics of educational practice". Since 1958 he lived in Mitteltal. By Martin Wagenschein he is portrayed as a very positive conveyor educational literature.

From 1921 to 1924 Holfelder belonged to the Freikorps Oberland , through his brother Hans Holfelder he had contact with the Artamanenbund . He was a member of the NSDAP since May 1, 1933 (membership number 2,459,510) and a member of the SS since May 21, 1934 (membership number 267,229), also in Lebensborn . In the SS he received the rank of SS standard leader in 1940 . He received the SS skull ring and the SS sword of honor .
