Albert Klein (literary scholar)

Albert Klein (born January 7, 1939 in Tauberbischofsheim ; † January 4, 2017 ) was a German literary scholar and rector of the University of Dortmund .

Life

Albert Klein spent his childhood and youth in Tauberbischofsheim and graduated from high school here in 1958. His father was Leo Klein, senior director of the Matthias Grünewald grammar school .

After studying German, journalism, sociology and history, Klein received his doctorate in 1968 from the Ruhr University in Bochum with a thesis on the entertainment novel in the 19th century. He then worked as a lecturer in teacher training at the teacher training colleges in Hamm and Schwäbisch Gmünd . In 1972 he was appointed professor for German literature and its didactics at what was then the Ruhr University of Education in Dortmund. When the PH Ruhr was incorporated into the University of Dortmund in 1980, Klein became a professor at the University of Dortmund. In the field of research, Klein mainly worked in the field of literary communication of entertainment novels or classics of German poets.

Klein was elected the fifth rector of the University of Dortmund in 1994. After being re-elected in 1998, he remained rector until 2002. From 2000 to 2001, Klein was chairman of the state rectors' conference of the universities in North Rhine-Westphalia. Klein retired in 2004.
