Albert Müller (born May 6, 1947 in Bubach-Calmesweiler ) is a former German football player and coach.

Career

As a soccer player

Müller began playing football at his hometown club SV Bubach Calmesweiler . The future national coach Jupp Derwall discovered him for the Saar selection. From 1971 he then played at FC 08 Homburg in the Southwest Regional Football League . He made his debut under coach Kurt Sommerlatt on the fourth match day, September 3, 1971, in a 0-0 home draw against FK Pirmasens in the then second-class regional league. He came on in the 64th minute of the game for Otto Geisert . In his second year at the Waldstadion , 1972/73, Uwe Klimaschefski began coaching in Homburg from November 1972 . Klimaschefski had replaced Radoslav Momirski as the successor to Sommerlatt. Special attention this season is also the 8: 6 goal away win at SV Alsenborn on February 18, 1973. In the last year of the old system of the Bundesliga substructure by the Regionalliga, 1973/74, Albert Müller's team moved into the top of the table for the first time and took third place behind the two former Bundesliga clubs Borussia Neunkirchen and 1. FC Saarbrücken. Overall, Müller, who is active in midfield, but especially as an attacking full-back, played 77 games for the FCH in the Regionalliga Südwest from 1971 to 1974.

The team of 1st chairman Udo Geitlinger qualified for the 1974/75 round for the debut year of the 2nd Bundesliga . Captain Albert Müller played 37 of the 38 round matches and the Saarlanders took 14th place. A better placement nullified the negative 6:32 points balance in the away games. The new coach Herbert Wenz was replaced by the returnee Klimaschefski in September 1974 and Otmar Ludwig and Gerhard Pankotsch were the goal guarantors. In his second year in the 2nd Bundesliga, 1975/76, Homburg was at the top of the table and was third behind champions 1. FC Saarbrücken and runner-up 1. FC Nürnberg. With the left full-back Horst Ehrmantraut , Müller formed one of the best attacking defenders in the second division in front of goalkeeper Gregor Quasten and with Manfred Lenz and Harald Diener , goal-threatening attackers were available. In the 1976 DFB Cup , Müller and colleagues made it to the quarter-finals with wins over Union Solingen, Hannover 96, SV Waldhof and Darmstadt 98. On April 3, 1976, the later cup winner Hamburger SV - Rudi Kargus , Manfred Kaltz , Horst Blankenburg , Peter Nogly , Peter Hidien , Ole Björnmose , Klaus Zaczyk , Willi Reimann - just won 2-1 goals in front of 20,000 spectators. In the following season, 1976/77, Albert Müller was in action in all 38 rounds and finished fourth with the FCH. In the Waldstadion Homburg managed the balance of 36: 2 points and could not realize the realistic dreams of promotion due to the negative balance in the away games of 13:25 points. In his fourth round of the second division, 1977/78, Albert Müller reached third place for the second time with Homburg and completed 36 league games. Now Gerd Schwickert was on the defensive alongside the captain . On October 15, 1977, the sensation in the DFB Cup succeeded in the third main round. Homburg defeated FC Bayern Munich with 3-1 goals in front of 20,000 spectators .

A meniscus damage ended his playing career in 1978/79. Albert Müller played his last second division game on September 17, 1978 in a 2-1 away win at 1. FC Saarbrücken. In defense, the FCH formed with Gregor Quasten in the goal and Homburg competed in the back four with Müller, Walter Gruler , Gerd Schwickert and Horst Ehrmantraut. His greatest success was twice third place (1976 and 1978) at FC 08 Homburg. A total of 156 games with four goals are on the balance sheet for Müller in the 2nd Bundesliga.
