Albert Michelsen

Albert Michelsen ( Albert Richard "Whitey" Michelsen; born December 16, 1893 in Danbury , Connecticut , † July 7, 1964 in Saint Petersburg ) was an American marathon runner .

In 1923 he was fourth in the Boston Marathon (distance approx. 38 km) in 2:28:28 h and won marathons in Baltimore in 2:59:48 h and New York City in 2:48:24 h. The following year, he improved himself to 2:45:48 h as second in Baltimore.

In 1925 he won Baltimore in 2:43:58 h and was fourth in the Boston Marathon (route length approx. 40 km) in 2:37:22 h. On October 12th, he set a world record in Port Chester with 2:29:02 h; however, according to ARRS, the route was only about 40 km.

In 1926 he was fourth again in the Boston Marathon (route length approx. 40 km) in 2:34:03 h and second in the US championships in 2:53:06 h and in Port Chester in 2:44:48 h. The following year he came second again in the US championships in 2:45:16 h and won in Port Chester (route length approx. 38.6 km) with 2:31:11 h.

In the Olympic year 1928 he was second in the US qualifying runs in Long Beach with 2:35:23 h and third in Baltimore with 3:01:47 h. At the Olympic marathon in Amsterdam he was ninth in 2:38:56 h.

In 1929 he was fourth in the Boston Marathon (distance approx. 41.1 km) in 2:37:22 h and won in Port Chester with 2:38:31 h.

In 1931 he won the championships of the New York Metropolitan AAU (track length approx. 38.5 km) in 2:32:35 h.

In the qualifying runs in the 1932 Olympic year, he was fourth in the Boston Marathon (track length approx. 41.1 km) in 2:36:23 h and second in Salisbury ( Massachusetts ) in 2:43:45 h. He won the third run in Los Angeles in 2:44:11 h. At the Olympic marathon in Los Angeles he was seventh in 2:39:38 h.

At the end of his career he finished sixth in the Boston Marathon in 1933 (route length approx. 41.1 km) in 2:40:27 h.
