Albert Neville Thiele

Albert Neville Thiele (born December 4, 1920 in Brisbane , Queensland , Australia ; † October 1, 2012 in Sydney ) was an electrical and mechanical engineer who mainly worked in the field of electroacoustics .

His name is mainly associated with the so-called Thiele-Small parameter .

Life

He attended Milton State School, Brisbane Grammar School, and the Universities of Queensland and Sydney . In the 1930s he appeared as a boy soprano on the Brisbane radio program and later as an actor . Then he began to be interested in sound recording and reproduction. After five years of military service in the infantry and the Australian "Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers", he completed his studies with a Bachelor of Engineering ( electronics and mechanical engineering ) in 1952. In that year he started at EMI (Australia) and after the start of television in 1955 in Australia he gained experience in various laboratories in Scandinavia and the USA . Back in Australia, he continued to work at EMI in television. In 1962 he moved to the Australian Broadcasting Commission where he was responsible for the development of radio and television equipment. In 1991 he became an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of New South Wales and in 1994 an Honorary Fellow of the University of Sydney , where he taught loudspeaker design .
