Albert Pürgstaller

Albert Pürgstaller (born May 12, 1954 in Brixen ) is an Italian politician from South Tyrol and former mayor of Brixen (2005–2015).

biography

Pürgstaller completed an apprenticeship as a qualified engineer in electrical engineering and worked in the private sector from 1975 to 1998. In 1990 he was elected to the Brixen municipal council on the list of the South Tyrolean People's Party , from 1995 to 1998 he was city councilor for public works, urban planning and the environment. He was also involved in internal party committees and was, among other things, chairman of the workers' wing from 1994 to 2005.

In the 1998 and 2003 elections, Pürgstaller was able to win a seat in the South Tyrolean state parliament and thus at the same time in the Trentino-South Tyrol regional council . In 2005 he ran as candidate for mayor for Brixen against Hans Heiss from the South Tyrolean Greens . After his successful election, Pürgstaller renounced his state parliament mandate. From 2005 to 2010 he was also President of the South Tyrolean Housing Institute (WOBI). After he was confirmed as mayor in the local elections in 2010, he declared in November 2014 that he would not stand again and retired from active politics in 2015. He then began to study art history at the University of Innsbruck and philosophy at the Philosophical-Theological University of Brixen .
