Hans Heiss (born November 13, 1952 in Brixen ) is an Italian historian and archivist as well as a South Tyrolean politician ( Greens ).

Life

After graduating from the Franziskanergymnasium Bozen , Hans Heiss studied history and German at the University of Innsbruck . His doctorate took place in 1986 with the dissertation The hospitality industry of the city of Brixen 1770-1815 . From 1985 to 1993 he was director of the Bressanone City Archives; from 1994 to 2003 he worked in the South Tyrolean Provincial Archives in Bozen , from 1996 as deputy director. In 2001 he obtained his habilitation . Heiss held teaching positions at the universities of Bari , Hildesheim , Innsbruck , Milan and Trento . His main research interests are in the areas of contemporary regional history , urban history of the 19th and 20th centuries, and the history of the bourgeoisie and tourism .

Heiss has been a member of the advisory board of the historical specialist journal Österreichische Zeitschrift für Geschichtswwissenschaften and co-founder of Geschichte und Region / Storia e regione since 1990 . He worked on various museum projects ( Touriseum , South Tyrolean State Museum for Cultural and State History at Castle Tyrol ). An extensive commemorative publication published by Folio Verlag was dedicated to him on his 60th birthday .

In addition to his academic work, Heiss is also politically active. After initially working in local politics in Bressanone, from 2003 he was a representative of the Greens in the South Tyrolean Parliament and, at the same time, in the Regional Council of Trentino-South Tyrol . After 15 years as a member of parliament, Heiss retired from active politics in 2018.
