Albert Rais

Albert Rais (born March 13, 1888 in La Chaux-de-Fonds ; † November 11, 1973 , Christian Catholic , resident in Develier , Delsberg and La Chaux-de-Fonds) was a Swiss politician (FDP) and federal judge .

Life

Albert Rais was born on March 13, 1888 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the son of the pastor François Joseph Albert Rais and Marie Elise, the daughter of the watch manufacturer and politician Arnold Grosjean. Rais completed a study of law at the universities of Neuchâtel , Bern and Paris. He was also admitted to the bar in 1912 and a notary's license in 1915.

After graduating, Rais worked as a lawyer in La Chaux-de-Fonds until 1942. To this end, he served as President of the Swiss Watch Chamber from 1935 to 1942 . He then served as a federal judge from 1943 to 1956. Most recently, Rais was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Courvoisier printing company and the L'Impartial newspaper in La Chaux-de-Fonds from 1957 .

After the divorce from his first wife Blanche Germaine, the daughter of the managing director Jämes Alfred Guyot, he married Gertrude nee Gessler for the second time. Albert Rais died on November 11, 1973 a few months before the age of 86 in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Political offices

Albert Rais, a member of the Free Democratic Party, was elected to the Neuchâtel Grand Council in 1925, to which he belonged until 1942 and of which he was president in 1929. In addition, he took a seat on the National Council for the canton from 1928 to 1942 .
