Alberta Ampomah

Alberta Boatema Ampomah (born November 3, 1994 in Accra ) is a Ghanaian weightlifter .

Career

Ampomah started lifting weights in her hometown in 2009. Internationally, the 168 centimeter tall Ampomah appeared for the first time at the 2010 African Junior Championship in Cairo , Egypt , where it won the bronze medal in tearing, pushing and in a duel with three participants in the weight class up to 75 kilograms. At the Commonwealth Games , which took place a few months later in Delhi , India , the Ghanaian was last among twelve participants in both sub-disciplines despite a significant increase in her personal best. At the African Championships in 2012 in the Kenyan capital Nairobi , the weightlifter achieved fourth place overall with the bronze medal in pushing and was therefore unable to qualify directly for the Olympic Games.

In June 2012, however, the athlete qualified via a quota place for the International Weightlifting Federation for the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in the weight class over 75 kilograms; At the competition on August 5th in the British capital of London , Ampomah was the easiest participant - starting in this class for the first time - 13th place out of 14 starters, because the Nigerian Mariam Usman did not make a valid attempt in the push. Ampomah trains at the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex under the direction of national coach Majeti Fetrie . She speaks English and French .
