The Albertic was a White Star Line passenger ship . The ship was originally commissioned by the North German Lloyd (NDL) as Munich for the Mediterranean-New York service, but came as a reparation payment only under the British flag as Ohio and later Albertic in the liner service.

Building history

1914 took place at the AG Weser in Bremen , the keel laying of a second ship of the NDL named Munich , the York service was planned for the Mediterranean and the New continued construction was halted during the war. In 1919 it was included in the reparations payments and shortly after it was launched in 1920 it was sold to the Royal Mail Line and renamed Ohio after delivery on March 27, 1923 .

Liner service

On April 3, 1923, the Ohio began her maiden voyage from Hamburg to New York via Southampton and Cherbourg . At that time, the Royal Mail was still regularly leaving Hamburg. However, the departures were less year by year and completely stopped in 1926. The Ohio continued its service between Southampton-Cherbourg and New York until 1926 . On October 15, 1926, she began her last round trip from Southampton via Cherbourg to New York.

In 1926 the Ohio went to the White Star Line, which was taken over by the Royal Mail, was renamed Albertic and was first used on April 22, 1927 between Liverpool and Canada (to Quebec and Montreal). In 1928 it started from London to Canada and in 1929 it replaced the failed Celtic (II) in the Liverpool – New York service via Boston from February 2nd. On May 9, 1930, the Albertic returned to service in Canada. It is questionable whether it was used after a tour to Québec and Montreal that began on August 29, 1930 in Liverpool .

She appears to have felt like the Clyde on her return to Liverpool in September . The Albertic was one of ten White Star Line ships that were transferred to Cunard White Star in 1934 , but was not used by the new company and was abandoned in Japan at the end of the year.
