Albez Duz is a Berlin doom metal and rock band that was founded in 2006.

history

Eugen "Impurus" Herbst had the idea to found Albez Duz as early as 2006, but the band was hardly active at first because the members at that time were still too involved in their other bands. The name comes from the Middle High German language from around 800 years ago, with "Albez" standing for "swan" and "Duz" for "noise", "noise", "noise". The core of the group initially consisted of two people who were supported in the recording by many different other musicians. After a three-year writing process and an unsuccessful recording attempt at a friend's house, the debut album was finally recorded within a few weeks in 2009 in the Hellsounds studio in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with Ronny Nolpa. Lars Kaeding was represented here as a singer, who died in 2011. Thereupon the band went quiet for three years, during which time Herbst wrote new songs. With Alfonso Brito Lopez as the new singer, the band returned in September 2014 with the album The Coming of Mictlan to Life , which was released by Iron Bonehead Productions and Archaic Sound . Thereupon the band held gigs, where they performed together with Primordial and Swans , Bölzer , Ascension and Hexvessel , among others . In October, Wings of Tzinacan followed on Listenable Records as a third studio album, which was recorded at The Source Studios in Munich with producer Michael Zech . With the addition of guitarist Julia Neuman, the permanent line-up had meanwhile expanded to a trio.

style

In an interview with Philip from Metal.de , the band named the works of groups from the early 1990s such as Tiamat , Paradise Lost and Amorphis as well as the 1970s such as Hawkwind , Black Widow and Pink Floyd as influences on the founding of Albez Duz. Lutz Koroleski from musikreviews.de stated in his review of the debut album that the music is based on classic Doom Metal of the 1970s. Although they classify themselves as “Occult Doom Rock”, Albez Duz is not a pure retro band. Influences from groups such as My Dying Bride , Tiamat and Paradise Lost can be identified in the songs and stylistic elements from melodic Black Metal are occasionally carefully processed. The singing is consistently clear, seems powerless and, above all, quite monotonous due to some spoken passages. Stephan Möller from Metal.de stated that The Coming of Mictlan contains occult and rocky Doom Metal. The songs usually had a playing time of around eight minutes and seemed drawn out. Thorsten Dörting from Rock Hard noted in his review of Wings of Tzinacan that, as with the first two albums, many things "slipped peculiarly and not where they actually belong" and compared the music with a cubist portrait. In the songs, the "black-blooded occult trio [...] combine doomy knack riffing with seventies psychedelia", while "the theatrical deep organ of Alfonso Brito [...] preaches with great gesture". One issue later, Mandy Malon interviewed Eugen Herbst and Alfonso Brito Lopez. According to his statement, Herbst's influences in Doom Metal are mainly Count Raven's High on Infinity and also some Type O Negative (especially everything up to Bloody Kisses ). His roots are in Thrash Metal and old Norwegian Black Metal, while Brito Lopez is more interested in music from the 1970s and stoner rock and Julia Neuman is more at home in the areas of Progressive Metal and Death Metal .
