Albrecht Grueber
Albrecht Grueber (born September 12, 1847 in Prague , † August 24, 1888 in Munich ) was a German genre, portrait and animal painter, son of the architect and art historian Bernhard Grueber (1807-1882).
Albrecht Grueber studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague with Eduard Engerth and Max Haushofer , and since October 28, 1864 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Alexander Strähuber , Arthur von Ramberg and Karl von Piloty .
When the German War broke out in 1866, Grueber joined the army as a volunteer cadet, but had to resign for health reasons. He reported for service again during the Franco-Prussian War in July 1870 and took part in the Battle of Wörth on August 6, 1870. Then he was released. Since then he has devoted himself to genre, portrait and animal painting. A progressive eye disease began around 1880. Albrecht Grueber died completely blind at the age of 41.
