Albrecht I of Meissen

Albrecht I of Meissen († August 1, 1152 on the way or in Constantinople ) was Bishop of Meissen from 1150 to 1152 .

Albrecht I is said to come from the Sorbian nobility. Even if several chroniclers report about Berthold as the successor of Bishop Reinward , Machtaschek contradicts and excludes Berthold from the bishopric. The contemporary historian and Freising Bishop Otto mentions Albrecht I in 1151 in connection with the dispute between Friedrich von Berg and Hermann von Horn about the bishopric in Utrecht. However, Albrecht I can only be recorded in a few documents. He was first provost of the cathedral. With the consent of the Pope, the diocese came under the protection of Margrave Konrad von Meissen . Just like the diocese of NaumburgIn return, one accepted levy and other claims. In 1152 the Roman-German King Conrad III. the bishop, who is known to be eloquent, on a diplomatic mission to the Greek emperor Manuel I. The bishop died on the way there or at his destination Constantinople itself. According to Machatschek Gerung , Bruno II does not appear in his series of bishops.
