Alec Bregonzi

Alec Bregonzi (born April 21, 1930 in London , † June 4, 2006 ) was a British actor .

Life

Bregonzi first completed a classical acting training and appeared as an actor at theaters in Farnham, York, Bromley, Leatherhead and in London's West End . In London, he also worked with comedian Ronnie Barker , which had a lasting impact on his performance in the comic field.

In 1957, Bregonzi, who had not previously played in film or television productions, joined the comedy ensemble of Tony Hancock's Half Hour , the television version of Tony Hancock's successful radio show in which comedians such as Sidney James and Kenneth Williams performed skits and absurdities. By the time the show was discontinued in 1960, Bregonzi played a wide variety of roles and became a sought-after television comedian. He starred with well-known comedians such as Ted Ray (It's Saturday Night) , Peter Sellers (The April 8th Show) , Ronnie Barker (The Two Ronnies) , Benny Hill and Frankie Howerd .

In 1958, Bregonzi made his feature film debut in the military comedy Carry on Sergeant , the first film in the long-running Carry-on… film series . In his almost 50-year film career, he appeared in many other comedies such as Georgy Girl (with James Mason ), Inspector Clouseau - The crazy Flic with the hot look , but also in numerous productions in other genres such as the Edgar Wallace crime novels Ricochet and Face of a Stranger and film adaptations ( Gret Expectations after Charles Dickens ).

He also worked as a comedian on various radio programs and lent his voice to various characters in the puppet series The Treacle People (1995–1997).

For the last years of his life, Alec Bregonzi fought cancer . He died on June 4, 2006 at the age of 76.
