Alec H. Sehon

Alec Herman Sehon (* 1924 in Blejoi , Romania ; † February 3, 2018 in Winnipeg ) was a Canadian immunologist and professor at the University of Manitoba .

Life

Alec Sehon received a bachelor's degree from Victoria University of Manchester in 1948 , where he also completed a master's degree in chemistry and physical chemistry in 1950 . In 1951 he received his doctorate. He then worked at the National Research Council of Canada (1951/52), at the California Institute of Technology and at the Department of Biochemistry at Uppsala University (1952/53). From 1953 to 1969 he worked in the Department of Experimental Medicine and Chemistry at McGill University . In 1969, Sehon was appointed full professor of immunology at the University of Manitoba , where he set up a department of immunology. In the same year he became a member of the Royal Society of Canada .

Sehon was married and had two children.

Research priorities

Sehon's research interests focused primarily on the immune response and therapies for suppressing immunoglobulin E for the treatment of allergies . He also researched the prevention of rejection reactions after organ transplants and the treatment of autoimmune diseases .
