Aleksandar Tonew (born February 2, 1990 in Elin Pelin ) is a Bulgarian football player .
Club career
Tonew began his career in the youth team of CSKA Sofia , from where he was brought into the first team in 2007. Tonev made his debut in the Bulgarian top division one season later. In the game against Belasiza Petritsch on August 10, 2008 he was substituted in the 90th minute. The game was won 1-0. This season he came on another 16 missions and scored against Wichren Sandanski a brace. ZSKA was runner-up at the end of the season.
In the following season he played on loan at OFK Sliven 2000 , where he came on 23 missions and one hit. With 13th place the OFK was able to prevent the descent by five points. He then returned to Sofia and made his debut at European club level. In the game of the third qualifying round for the Europa League against the representative from Northern Ireland Cliftonville FC on July 27, 2010, the attacking midfielder was on the field until the 70th minute. The game was won 3-0.
From 2011 to 2013 he was under contract with the Polish first division club Lech Posen .
On June 7, 2013 it was announced that Tonev will be part of the Aston Villa squad from the 2013/2014 season. After 17 missions, he moved to Celtic Glasgow on loan . As a result, he joined the Italian first division club Frosinone Calcio , with whom he was relegated from Serie A. Tonew therefore moved to newly promoted FC Crotone , with whom he managed to stay in the league .
His contract was terminated in February 2018.
National team
Aleksandar Tonev played in various youth national teams in Bulgaria. On October 11, 2011 , he made his debut in a friendly against Wales for the Bulgarian national football team (0-1). So far, he has completed ten full international matches for Bulgaria .
