Alex Grant (actually Alexander Grant Jr .; born April 16, 1874 in St. Marys , † October 13, 1946 in Narberth , Pennsylvania ) was a Canadian middle and long distance runner .

As a student at the University of Pennsylvania , he was American champion in the mile run in 1899 and, together with his brother Dick Grant , in the five-mile run.

The following year he was nominated as a US champion over 880 yards and in the two-mile obstacle course by his university for the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris. Just like his brother Dick, who was sent from Harvard University and competed in the marathon, he was officially assigned to the US team. In Paris, Alex Grant was eliminated in the 800 m lead. He did not reach the goal over 4000 m obstacle. Allegedly, he is said to have refused to start in the 1,500-meter race because the final took place on a Sunday (many participants in the games in Paris refused to compete on Sunday for religious reasons).

Despite these rather disappointing Olympic results, Alex Grant continued to celebrate successes at national level: from 1901 to 1903 he was three times US champion in the mile run. He won other US championship titles in 1902 over five miles and in 1903 and 1904 over two miles.
