Alexander Anton Rosenberg

Alexander Anton Rosenberg (born August 21 . Jul / 2 September  1839 greg. In Carolinenhof in Fennern ; † 27. May 1926 in Tartu ) was a Baltic German anatomist.

Rosenberg was the son of a glassworks owner Carl Rosenberg and Emilie Graubner. In 1879 he married Lisa Unterberger, daughter of the veterinarian Friedrich Unterberger . His brother Emil Woldemar Rosenberg was an anatomy professor in Dorpat.

Life

Rosenberg attended schools in Weißenstein and Pernau . From 1858 he studied medicine at the University of Tartu and became in 1867 with Scripture studies on the development of teleost rat kidney to Dr. med. PhD. In 1868 he became deputy adjunct at the university, in 1873 extraordinary and in 1876 full professor of zootomy and physiology at the veterinary institute. When the University of Dorpat was Russified , he was dismissed in 1893, but continued to manage the library of the Veterinary Institute until 1915 and was an honorary member of the Institute from 1898. He was a real councilor of state .

He dealt with the development of limbs in animals and amassed a large collection of skeletons.

On September 4, 1886 he was registered with the matriculation number. 2620 member of the Leopoldina , 1925 honorary member . In 1896 he became a corresponding member of the Society for History and Archeology of the Baltic Sea Provinces of Russia (GGuA) and the Estonian Scholarly Society . In 1905 he became an honorary member of the Antiquity Research Society in Pernau and in 1913 of the Estonian Literary Society .
