Alexander Bade (born August 25, 1970 in West Berlin ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper and now a coach and official.

Career

As a player

Alexander Bade began his career as a goalkeeper at Tennis Borussia Berlin , where he played as a teenager. For the 1988/89 season he moved to 1. FC Köln and was in the Bundesliga team from 1991 , although he was always in the shadow of Bodo Illgner and only made five appearances in four years. He then moved to Bayer 05 Uerdingen in 1994 (which were renamed KFC Uerdingen 05 in the summer of 1995 ), where he was also used in only five games in two years. Bernd Dreher was the goalkeeper there. After relegation from KFC Uerdingen, he maintained the position of goalkeeper against his new competitor Achim Hollerieth . He played 57 league appearances for KFC Uerdingen in two second division years. He moved to Hamburger SV in the 1998/99 season . Because of the supremacy there of Hans Jörg Butt , he only managed to get the position of substitute goalkeeper and he was not used in any Bundesliga game during his two-year commitment.

He then moved back to 1. FC Köln in 2000, where he was initially able to establish himself as an equivalent alternative to the then regular goalkeeper Markus Pröll and then oust him. In the 2002/03 season, Alex Bade was the undisputed goalkeeper under the then FC coach Friedhelm Funkel and his performance contributed to the immediate resurgence. When, in the following season, a hopeful young goalkeeper, Stefan Wessels, moved from Bayern Munich to FC, Bade was pushed back to the bench in the coming season. Coach Funkel justified his decision for Wessels with his gut feeling, as both goalkeepers were equally strong. Even under coach Huub Stevens, Wessels was preferred to Bade. When Wessels injured himself at the beginning of the 2004/2005 season, Bade used the opportunity that presented himself and with excellent performances for the entire season, he won back the position of the goalkeeper and made a significant contribution to the promotion. With his parades he saved the FC many points. Nevertheless, he was left behind again for the next season under coach Rapolder and Stefan Wessels was again number 1 in goal. Only after Wessels was injured, Bade played the remaining games of the season.

Bade moved to the first division club VfL Bochum for the 2006/07 season , where he signed a one-year contract. There it was only used very sporadically. Therefore, he moved to the 2007/08 season for the second division club SC Paderborn 07 , where he signed a one-year contract, which was provided with an option for another year. Bade moved to Borussia Dortmund on January 25, 2008 , where he signed a contract that was valid until the end of the season. In Dortmund he was a substitute goalkeeper behind Marc Ziegler after Roman Weidenfeller was injured . He played his only game in the Borussia Dortmund jersey at the home game against FC Schalke 04 on February 10, 2008, because Marc Ziegler injured his shoulder and had to be replaced at halftime. On May 17th, 2008 he was bid farewell to Borussia Dortmund together with Christian Wörns and Philipp Degen . After that he was initially without a contract and kept fit during training with the VDV , where he also worked as a goalkeeping coach.

In the 2008/09 season, Bade was finally a substitute goalkeeper at Arminia Bielefeld , as the regular goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez had suffered a difficult knee injury. Here he also ended his active career.

As a trainer and functionary

From the 2009/10 season, Bade worked as a goalkeeper coach at 1. FC Köln, his permanent contract was terminated on January 3, 2018 after Andreas Menger was signed at the end of the month. In August 2019 he became sports coordinator at the 24-time Austrian champions FK Austria Wien , where the former Cologne head coach Peter Stöger was the sports director. For the 2020/21 season he was goalkeeping coach at Austria.
