Alexander Sergejewitsch Foliforow ( Russian Алекса́ндр Серге́евич Фоли́форов , also transcribed Alexander Foliforov ; born March 8, 1992 in Kowrow ) is a Russian cyclist .

Career

Foliforow began his international career in 2012 with the Continental Team Itera-Katusha , for which he won the junior competition of the Tour of Serbia that year . In 2013 he won the fourth stage of the Grand Prix of Adygeya for Helicopters and thus his first race on the international calendar. At the U23 stage race Ronde de l'Isard 2014 , he again won two stages for Itera , won the points and the mountain classification and was sixth overall. For the Russian national team, he was fourth overall in the U23 Nations Cup Tour de l'Avenir in the same year .

In 2015 Foliforow switched to the Professional Continental Team RusVelo and achieved his first international tour victory at the Grand Prix of Sochi . With the Giro d'Italia 2016 he contested his first Grand Tour and achieved his greatest success to date. He surprisingly won the mountain time trial of the 15th stage ahead of Steven Kruijswijk , whom he beat by a split second.
