Alexander Ivanovich Stebut

Alexander Iwanowitsch Stebut ( Russian Александр Иванович Стебут ; * 3 January July / 15 January  1877 greg. In Moscow ; † 1952 in Belgrade ) was a Russian agricultural scientist , soil scientist , plant breeder and university teacher .

Life

Stebut, son of the aristocratic agronomist Ivan Alexandrowitsch Stebut and his wife Jekaterina Bernardowna née Michelson, founded the Saratov agricultural research station in 1910 , of which he was then director. He was a member of the steering committee of the League for Agricultural Reforms and chairman of the Imperial Agricultural Association. He was the director of the Higher Agriculture Courses for Women in Moscow ( Stebut courses ).

After the October Revolution Stebut 1918 was director of the Experimental Station of the Moscow Oblast in Sobakino ( Rajon Naro-Fominsk ). In the autumn of 1919, he fled Moscow from the Red Terror to southern Russia . During the Russian Civil War he was a professor at the Tauride University in Sevastopol in the Crimea . In 1920 he was evacuated from Novorossiysk to Constantinople as part of General Wrangel's evacuation campaigns.

Then emigrated Stebut into the Kingdom of Yugoslavia . He became professor of soil science at the Faculty of Agriculture of Belgrade University . He created the first classification of the soils of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

In the NKVD report on Nikolai Iwanowitsch Vawilow it was stated that Stebut had close working contacts with Vawilow and that Vawilow often stayed abroad with Stebut.

Stebut was buried in Belgrade's Novo Groblje Central Cemetery.
