Alexander Jurjewitsch Kovalenko
Alexander Jurjewitsch Kovalenko ( Russian Александр Юрьевич Коваленко , English transcription Aleksandr Yuryevich Kovalenko ; born May 8, 1963 in Bobruisk , Belarusian SSR ) is a former Russian three-jumper .
Life
Starting for the Soviet Union , he took fourth place in the triple jump behind Christo Markow , Mike Conley Sr. and Oleg Sakirkin at the World Athletics Championships in Rome in 1987 with a width of 17.38 m . The greatest success of his career followed at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. There Kowalenko won the bronze medal with a width of 17.42 m behind Christo Markow (17.61 m) and Igor Lapschin (17.52 m).
At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Kowalenko joined the United Team . He jumped 17.06 m and finished in seventh place.
Alexander Kowalenko is 1.78 m tall and had a competition weight of 80 kg. He started for the SKA Leningrad and SKA Minsk . He married Tatjana Kasankina and after finishing his sports career became a mathematics lecturer at St. Petersburg University.
