Alexander Ogle

Alexander Ogle (born August 10, 1766 in Frederick , Province of Maryland , †  October 14, 1832 in Somerset , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1817 and 1819 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Alexander Ogle attended the public schools in his home country. In 1795 he moved to Somerset, Pennsylvania, where he embarked on a political career. In the late 1790s he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . Between 1803 and 1811 he sat several times as a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania . In the state militia he rose to major general. Between 1812 and 1817 he held various local offices.

In the congressional elections of 1816 , Ogle was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded William Piper on March 4, 1817 . Since he renounced a further candidacy in 1818, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1819 .

From 1819 to 1823 Alexander Ogle was again a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania; between 1827 and 1828 he was a member of the State Senate . He died on October 14, 1832 in Somerset, where he was also buried. His son Charles Ogle (1798–1841) and grandson Andrew Jackson Ogle (1822–1852) also became members of Congress.
