Alexander Pechtold
Alexander Pechtold (born December 16, 1965 in Delft ) is a Dutch politician of the Democrats 66 (D66).
education
Pechtold attended the Rotterdamsch Lyceum and studied art history and archeology at the University of Leiden from 1986 to 1996 . He financed his studies by working for Van Stockum's Veilingen in The Hague , a traditional Dutch auction house specializing in art auctions . In 1995 he received a diploma as an auctioneer (in the Netherlands, in contrast to Germany, a training occupation ).
Political career
Pechtold joined the Democrats 66 in 1989 . From 1994 to 2002 he represented her in the council of the city of Leiden , from 1997 to 2003 he was an alderman . From 2002 to 2005 Pechtold acted as party chairman. From October 2003 to March 2005 he was also mayor of Wageningen . Subsequently, until his resignation at the end of June 2006, he was Minister for Administrative Reform in the Balkenende II cabinet . In the early parliamentary election of 2006 he was the top candidate for the D66. Since then he has acted as parliamentary group leader and thus de facto as the party's political leader. In October 2018, Pechtold announced his resignation as parliamentary group leader at a party congress in 's-Hertogenbosch, and he resigned on October 9, 2018.
Private
Pechtold was married to Froukje Idema. The former couple has two children.
