Alexander Schöppner
Alexander Schöppner (born April 1, 1820 in Fulda ; † August 3, 1860 in Munich ) was a German educator and writer .
Life
His baptismal name was Johannes . He was born the son of the tailor Wilhelm Schöppner and his wife Theresia geb. Müller. He attended grammar school in his home town of Fulda.
Then Alexander Schöppner joined the Augustinian order in Münnerstadt in 1838 and was given the name of the order Alexander . In 1839 he made his profession and began studying theology and philosophy at the University of Würzburg . In 1843 he was ordained a priest , after which he worked for five years as a teacher at the Augustiner Gymnasium in Münnerstadt.
In 1847 Schöppner left the order with papal permission and became a secular priest . From 1848 he taught as a teacher at the Descartes grammar school in Neuburg an der Donau , from 1850 at the Maximilians grammar school in Munich . In 1852 he received special leave for his literary work and was ailing from 1853; on July 30, 1855, he retired at his own request.
He died of pulmonary edema in 1860 and was buried in the Old Munich South Cemetery.
Alexander Schöppner was best known as a collector of Bavarian sagas. He also published under the pseudonym Johannes Einsiedel .
