Joseph Kehrein

Joseph Kehrein, ca.1865

Joseph Kehrein (born October 20, 1808 in Heidesheim am Rhein , † March 25, 1876 in Montabaur ) was a German teacher, philologist, historian and director of the Montabaur teachers' college .

Life

In 1823 he attended the Episcopal Gymnasium in Mainz . Between 1831 and 1834 he studied classical philology at the University of Giessen , but also dealt with philosophy , art history , mathematics , English and French . During his studies he became a member of the old Gießen fraternity Germania in the winter semester of 1831/32 .

In 1845 he was appointed by the Nassau school councilor Dr. Gottfried Seebode was appointed to the Hadamar grammar school and worked there as deputy director for ten years.

In 1855 he was appointed director of the Montabaur teacher training college.

Awards

In recognition of his services to the elementary and academic schools, the Montabaur city council granted him honorary citizenship at the beginning of 1873 .

A primary school in Montabaur is named after him today, as is a street in Frankfurt am Main (Nied district).
