Alexander "Sandy" John Trees, Baron Trees MRCVS (born June 12, 1946 ) is a British veterinarian and non-party politician.

Life

Studies and professional career at universities and the private sector

After attending school, Trees completed a degree in veterinary medicine at the University of Edinburgh and took part in a research trip from the university to Kenya from 1969 to 1970 . After completing his studies, he worked as an assistant in a general veterinary practice in Derby before he became a research fellow at the Center for Tropical Veterinary Medicine (CVTM) at the University of Edinburgh in 1971 . As such, between 1974 and 1976 he participated as a member in a joint project with the National Institute for Veterinary Research in Nigeria .

After returning to Europe , Trees moved to the private sector in 1977 and worked for the pharmaceutical company Elanco Products Co. in Rome until 1980 , initially as a consultant for veterinary medicine for the Middle East . From 1979 to 1980 he was veterinary consultant for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa , before he last worked for some time in 1980 as head of animal science in the Middle East and Africa.

Professor and Dean at the University of Liverpool

In 1980 he went to the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences University of Liverpool , where he became a lecturer at the Department of Veterinary Parasitology was appointed. After his employment contract was extended in 1983, he also worked from 1984 to 1988 for the Medical Research Council (MRC) as a visiting scientist in a laboratory in Bo , Sierra Leone . He later from 1991 to 2001 member of the editorial staff of the journal Research in Veterinary Science , and between 1992 and 2001. Head of the Department of Veterinary Parasitology. Since 1992 he has also been an editorial member of the journal Trends in Parasitology , which emerged from the journal Parasitology Today .

In 1994 Trees took over a professorship in veterinary parasitology at the University of Liverpool and has been teaching since then. Positions in scientific and professional organizations

In addition to his teaching and research activities, Trees is involved in numerous organizations and institutions and has been a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) since 1969 .

He has also been a member of the Association of Veterinary Teachers and Research Workers (AVTRW) since 1980 and was a member of its council between 1995 and 2001. At the same time he was first vice-president from 1995 to 1996 and then president of the AVTRW until 1997. He has also been a member of the British Society for Parasitology and the British Veterinary Association (BVA) since 1980, where he was chairman of the educational group and member of the veterinary policy group between 1997 and 2001. He has also been a member of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) since 1986 and was a member of its advisory board and medal and award committees between 1997 and 2000.

Trees, who has been a member of the Advisory Board and Education Committee of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons since 2000, was initially Vice-President between 2008 and 2009 and then President of the RCVS from 2009 to 2010.

Awards and House of Lords Member

Trees has also received numerous awards for his services to veterinary medicine, including a Birrel Gray Fellowship from the University of Edinburgh in 1971 and a fellowwealth foundation in 1982 . In 2009 he became the Wooldridge Lector of the British Veterinary Association and received the medal of this society.

By Letters Patent he was appointed as from July 3, 2012 Life peer with the title Baron Trees , of The Ross in Perth and Kinross collected in the personal nobility and has been a member of the House of Lords . He was inducted into the House of Lords on July 12, 2012 and took his seat on the Crossbencher side .
