Alexander von Kieter

Justinus Ludwig Alexander Alexandrowitsch von Kieter (in Russian literature Alexander Alexandrowitsch Kiter , Russian Александр Александрович Китер ; * August 20 July / September 1,  1813 greg. In Wenden ; † March 24 jul. / April 5,  1879 greg. In St. Petersburg ) was a Livonian doctor and the founder of Russian surgical gynecology .

Life

Alexander von Kieter , son of the Rigaer Kreis fiscal Johann Ludwig Alexander von Kieter (1789-1852) and Constantia geb. von Gerstenzweig, began studying medicine at the University of Dorpat after attending the Russian government high school in Riga in 1831 , from which he graduated in 1835 with a gold medal. He was a member of the Fraternitas Rigensis . In 1836 he was with his dissertation De lithotripsiae methodo percussionis, praesertim de apparatu Heurteloupiano ad eam comme date for Doctor of Medical Sciences PhD. He then became assistant to NI Pirogow in the Dorpater Surgical Clinic. From 1838 to 1839 he continued his education with a state study abroad scholarship in Western Europe.

In 1840 Kieter became professor - adjunct for surgery at the University of Kazan with promotion to full professor in 1846. In 1849 he changed to the chair for obstetrics and childhood diseases at the St. Petersburg Imperial Medical and Surgical Academy , later the Military Medical Academy (WMA) . In 1858 he took over the chair for surgery there. At Kieter's request, KL Höppner headed the chair from 1862 . Kieter was a privy councilor and a permanent member of the Military Medical Committee .

Kieter was buried in St. Petersburg's Wolkowo Lutheran Cemetery. He left his wife Caroline Pauline geb. Ballazzés (* approx. 1816 in Paris ) and the sons Alexander and Anatol Wladimir v. Kieter.
