Alexander von Rabenau

Alexander von Rabenau (born October 6, 1845 in Vetschau ; † September 27, 1923 there ) was a local researcher .

Rabenau was born the son of a farmer and businessman at Cottbuser Straße 19 in Vetschau. Later he worked as a farmer himself, but became known as a local researcher. The von Rabenaus came from Saxony .

Together with the doctor Rudolf Virchow , he took part in excavations at prehistoric sites. His special commitment was the collection of folk tales . On many hikes, he collected a total of around 60, mostly Sorbian , legends and fairy tales . The collection was published in 1889. He bequeathed his collections to the Märkisches Museum in Berlin . However , they were lost here in 1945 during the Second World War .

The devout Catholic Rabenau was also involved in religious matters. He held lay services and was instrumental in initiating the construction of the Catholic Holy Family Church for his Vetschauer congregation in 1897 .
