Alexandru Nicolescu
Alexandru Nicolescu (born July 8, 1852 in Tulgheş , in Csík County ( German : Tschick), Transylvania ; † June 5, 1941 in Blaj , Romania ) was the Romanian Greek Catholic Archbishop of Făgăraş and Alba Iulia .
Life
Alexandru Niculescu studied at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome, where he received his doctorate in philosophy and theology in 1904 and was ordained a celibate priest. His first pastoral duties took him to the North American mission . He then became professor of moral theology at the Archbishop's Theological Seminary in Blaj and a member of the Metropolitan Chapter.
On February 25, 1922 he was appointed Bishop of Lugoj. He was consecrated on June 18, 1922 in the Trinity Cathedral of Blaj by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Făgăraş and Alba Iulia Vasile Suciu . Co- consecrators were Valeriu Traian Frențiu , the Bishop of Lugoj and Iuliu Hossu the Bishop of Gherla, Armenopoli, Szamos-Újvár In the Cathedral of Lugoj he was installed in his diocese on July 16, 1922.
On August 29, 1936 he was appointed to succeed Vasile Suciu as Archbishop and Metropolitan of Făgăraş and Alba Iulia
Archbishop Alexandru Nicolescu died on June 5th (the week before Pentecost) 1941 and was buried in the crypt of the Trinity Cathedral in Blaj.
