Alexei Petrovich Bystrov

Alexei Petrovich Bystrow ( Russian Алексе́й Петро́вич Быстро́в ; born February 1, 1899 in Ryazan Oblast ; † August 29, 1959 in Leningrad ) was a paleontologist , anatomist and histologist from Russia .

biography

Alexei Bystrow was born into the family of a peasant priest and a teacher in Ryazan Oblast . First he attended the village school, later a pen. In 1917 he joined the Ryazan Alumnate , which was dissolved by the new rulers in 1918. He then studied at the Medical Academy, where he was primarily interested in the anatomy and paleontology of vertebrates . In 1937 he moved to Moscow . Here Bystrow worked in the Paleontological Institute (department for lower vertebrates). In 1939 he went back to Leningrad , where he worked until the German attack on the Soviet Union, after which he was evacuated to Kirov . In February 1943, Bystrow was promoted to lieutenant colonel in the medical service.

After the war, Alexei Bystrov taught in Leningrad at the local university , where he wrote many scientific works.

Bystrow died in 1959 and was buried in Leningrad.

A cape on Jackson Island in the Franz Josef Land archipelago was named after him. The same applies to the Bystrov Rock , a rock formation in Queen Maud Land in Antarctica.
