Alfred Giovanni Roncalli Boe OBE (born September 29, 1973 in Blackpool ) is a British tenor .

Career

Boe grew up in Blackpool and although he grew up with classical music in his youth, he initially did not seek a career as a singer. It was only when others noticed his talent for singing that he followed the advice to apply to the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in London. He was recorded and toured with the company with plays by Gilbert and Sullivan . After that, Boe got a scholarship to the Royal College of Music . His further education included the National Opera Studio and the Royal Opera House ’s Villar Young Artists Program. In the early 2000s, Baz Luhrmann brought him into his Broadway production of La Bohème . The performance became a huge success and the ensemble received a Tony Award in 2003 .

In 2006 Alfie Boe signed a record deal with Classic FM and released his debut album, Classic FM Presents Alfie Boe , which reached number three in the British classical music charts. The tenor then switched to EMI Classics that same year and released the album Onward in 2007 . It even made it onto the official UK sales charts . Other albums followed, including La Passione, an album with traditional Italian songs.

In addition, he continued to work in operas and took on a leading role in the anniversary of the musical Les Misérables in the O2 arena in London in 2010. His increased popularity was also evident in 2010 with the release of the album Bring Him Home . It made it to the top ten British albums and stayed in the charts for over a year. He then played Les Misérables at London's Queen's Theater and appeared at the Last Night of the Proms and the Diamond Jubilee Concert to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's throne. Three more of his album releases also made it into the top ten of the UK charts. His albums were also released in the USA, where they also achieved top positions in the classical music charts. In March 2016, he took on the role of Peter Pan creator JM Barrie in Gary Barlow's Broadway musical Finding Neverland . After the end of the New York season, he will return to London's West End in this role from 2017 .
