Alfio Molina (born April 20, 1948 in Lugano ) is a former Swiss ice hockey goalkeeper who played exclusively for HC Lugano during his active career .

Career

At the age of 15 years Molina was during the 1963-64 season for the first time by coach Elwin Friedrich in Erstligamannschaft of HC Lugano used, with whom he promoted to the National League B reached. In the same year he ran for the first time for the Swiss junior national team on the ice. The opponent of this first international match in Munich was the German Democratic Republic . During the 1970/71 season, Molina, who worked as a draftsman for the municipality of Lugano, was appointed to the Swiss men's national team for the first time and was initially back-up behind Gérald Rigolet . Most of the time he won the first championship title of HC Lugano away from the ice - due to a knee operation, the Ticino player only played two games and was represented by Thierry Andrey during this time .

At the international level, Molina made 64 caps for Switzerland. He took part in the 1972 and 1976 Winter Olympics. He was also on the ice at four World Cup tournaments for his home country.

After the end of his career, Molina's jersey number 1 was banned by HC Lugano and has not been given to any player since then.
