Alfons Bora

Alfons Bora (born May 3, 1957 in Elchesheim ) is a German lawyer and sociologist and has been a professor of sociology at Bielefeld University since 1999 .

Life

Bora studied law and sociology in Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1982 he passed the first state examination in law. In 1985 he obtained a master's degree in sociology. From 1985 to 1987 he was a trainee lawyer in the justice administration of the state of Baden-Württemberg and at the Federal Environment Agency in Berlin and passed the second state examination in law. From 1983 to 1991 he worked at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law in the criminology research group. In 1991 Bora was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . From 1991 to 1998 he worked as a research assistant at the Social Science Research Center in Berlin in the Norms and Environment department and from 1995 to 1997 at the Free University of Berlin. In 1998 he completed his habilitation in sociology at the Free University of Berlin . Bora has been Professor of Sociology at Bielefeld University since 1999 .

His research interests include the sociology of law , the sociology of science and qualitative social research , in particular objective hermeneutics . His empirical areas of work are the sociology of law and technology assessment , in particular methods of citizen participation .

From 2008 to 2012 Bora was a member of the German Ethics Council .

From 2008 to 2012 he was co-editor of the journal for sociology and is co-editor of the journal for legal sociology and the series "Wissenschafts- und Technikforschung" at Nomos-Verlag.
