At the turn of the century he was also active in the Krakow cabaret "The Green Ballon", where he created satirical pieces with the painter Jozef Szajkowski and the poets Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński and Witold Nosowski.
In 1903 he moved to Munich , where he continued his studies at Anton Ažbe's private art school . From 1905 to 1907 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Kasimir Pochwalski and from 1908 to 1912 at the Académie Colarossi in Paris and in the studios of Henri Martin and Hermenegildo Anglada Camarasa . During this time he visited Venice, Dresden, Budapest and London. In 1911 and again in 1920 he worked intermittently as a drawing teacher at advanced courses for women in Krakow.
During the First World War he served in the Austrian army and was slightly wounded. As a result he was until 1917 as Ldst.-Oberleutnant in the department for war graves at the K. u. K. Karpiński was involved in the Vienna Secession from 1910 ; he was a member of the Polish artists' cooperative. In Cracow he was a member of Towarzystwo Artystów Polskich "Sztuka" . The first participation in an exhibition took place in 1899 with the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Krakow . In 1903 and 1905 similar organizations in Lemberg and Warsaw exhibited pictures of him at group exhibitions. In the 1930s his pictures were shown at the Warsaw Art Propaganda Institute. Solo exhibitions were given in Krakow (1911, 1926, 1929, 1930, 1931, 1949, 1958) and Lviv (1920, 1926, 1937). His symbolic compositions and genre scenes from Parisian life and the Krakow bohème , created until 1914, are Karpiński's better-known early works. His portraits of actresses and models in the Secession style also found recognition . He liked to paint with ornamental use of color and with sharp contours. After 1918 he created portraits in the style of salon painting , still lifes with flowers and, more rarely, Italian or French landscapes.
