Alfons Kranz

Alfons Kranz (born March 28, 1933 in Olpe ; † July 5, 2019 in Korschenbroich ) was a German publishing director, publicist and local politician .

Life

Alfons Kranz took over the management of Neusser Zeitungsverlag GmbH in January 1969 , in which the Neuss-Grevenbroicher Zeitung (NGZ) has been published since 1873 . On April 1, 1969, he also worked for the Gesellschaft für Buchdruckerei AG , of which he became director on October 1, 1975. He expanded the publishing house into a modern media company. He founded several advertising papers and as a co-founder in 1990 with NE-WS 89.4, a radio station for the Rhine district of Neuss. 1997 Eberhard Hücker became his successor.

Kranz was involved in the advisory board of the Catholic News Agency (KNA) from 1984 to 2002 , from 1990 onwards as deputy chairman. Together with the then head of the commissariat of the German bishops in Bonn, Prelate Paul Bocklet , and the then managing director of the KNA, Richard W. Orth , he was the initiator of the KNA Promedia Foundation, a funding initiative for young Catholic journalists, in 2001 and was its long-standing Advisory board member. In 1999, Kranz was the initiator of the nationwide journalist prize “Pro Ehrenamt - Hermann Wilhelm Thywissen Prize”.

Alfons Kranz lived with his wife Ursula in Korschenbroich-Glehn .

politics

Alfons Kranz was a member of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district assembly from 1975 to 2004 and was deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group there .

He held numerous public mandates, most recently as chairman of the board of directors at the Technologiezentrum Glehn (TZG) , a wholly owned subsidiary of the district.

In 2007, Kranz was one of the initiators and founding donors of the Korschenbroich Community Foundation and other initiatives such as the Technologiezentrum Glehn (TZG), the business development agency, the Sports Foundation, the Kreisheimatbund, the Groundwater Commission and the journalists' prize "Pro Ehrenamt".
