Alfred Agster
Alfred Emil Oskar Agster (born April 12, 1858 in Ilsfeld , † January 10, 1904 in Degerloch ) was a pharmacist and member of the German Reichstag .
Life
Agster attended the grammar school in Heilbronn and the Latin schools in Wildberg and Winnenden . In 1872 he began his apprenticeship as a pharmacist, passed the pharmacist assistant exam in 1875 and then worked for four years in various shops in Germany and Switzerland. During this time he also took the one-year exam before the examination board in Erfurt and, after seven years in the pharmaceutical industry, entered the top class of the grammar school in Tübingen for one year. In 1881 he passed the high school diploma in order to study medicine at the universities of Tübingen , Jena and Basel . Due to material difficulties, however, he had to return to his profession as a pharmacist after studying for seven semesters. In addition, he was politically active - in the interests of social democracy. In 1889 he had to give up this job because he had become "disreputable" because of his political activity and moved to Stuttgart to pursue a number of years of journalistic activity. From 1890 to 1895 he was editor of the Swabian Tagwacht . In 1890 and 1893 he ran unsuccessfully for the German Reichstag. In March 1897 he was at the head of the company founded by the workers' organizations Workers Secretariat called and was until 1899 in this position.
From 1898 to 1903 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of the Grand Duchy of Baden 9 Pforzheim , Ettlingen and the SPD. During a session of the Reichstag in 1899 he became so mentally confused that he had to be admitted to a mental institution. A substitute election did not take place because the legal requirements for such a case, that a member of parliament can no longer exercise his mandate due to mental confusion, were not clarified. In 1904 he committed suicide and was addicted to morphine in the last years of his life.
