Alfred Wilhelm Arnold (born June 16, 1888 in Ellhofen , † May 27, 1960 in Ingelfingen ) was a German politician ( NSDAP ). In 1932 he was a member of the state parliament of Württemberg and from 1933 to 1945 a member of the Reichstag . He was also an expert on agricultural matters for the NSDAP and an SS brigade leader .

Life

Arnold attended the unified and secondary school from 1894 to 1902 and then worked on various farms for two years. In the winters of 1904/05 and 1905/06 he attended a course at the agricultural college in Heilbronn . From October 12, 1907 to September 24, 1909 he was a volunteer in the Württemberg Field Artillery Regiment No. 29 . From October 1909 until February 1914 he was employed as an agricultural officer on various estates. In February 1914 he took over his own farm, but had to start his military service the following summer. From August 2, 1914 to 1916, he took part in the 1st battery of the 65th Replacement Field Artillery Regiment in the First World War. Then he continued to run his farm. From 1923 he was a member of the Freikorps Freischar, and on January 1, 1931 he joined the NSDAP ( membership number 595.088). From January 1931 to April 1933 he was an agricultural district adviser and peasant speaker for the NSDAP.

Career in National Socialism

Arnold was elected to the state parliament of Württemberg in 1932 , to which he belonged until its dissolution in 1933. He then represented constituency 31 in the Reichstag from November 1933 to 1945 . On April 10, 1933, he became State Commissioner for State Agricultural Tasks at the Württemberg Minister of Economics, as well as agricultural district adviser to the Württemberg-Hohenzollern Gauleitung of the NSDAP. In 1933 he was also the Württemberg State Commissioner for Agriculture and Chairman of the Württemberg Chamber of Agriculture. Arnold worked as a Gau speaker and as a Reich speaker for the NSDAP. In 1933 he was a member of the Economic Council of the German Foreign Institute in Stuttgart and from 1933 to April 1941 a member of the German Reichsbauernrat . On December 15, 1933, Arnold joined the SS (membership number 146.716) and advanced to SS-Standartenführer by 1935 . In October 1936 he became a consultant in the four-year plan of the Gaus Württemberg-Hohenzollern. On January 30, 1937 he became SS-Oberführer. He was a member of the honorary committee of the Reichsgartenschau in Stuttgart in 1939 , and from September 1939 to 1945 he was head of the State Food Office in Württemberg. In addition, Arnold was a member of the Reich Advisory Council for Food and Agriculture from April 1941 to 1945. On November 9, 1942, he became a brigade leader of the SS, and on May 1, 1944, he was appointed part-time SS leader in the staff of the SS Upper Section Southwest .

post war period

Arnold was interned on May 6, 1945 and was held in internment camps 74 and 77 in Ludwigsburg and later in camp 76 in Hohenasperg, where he was classified as the main culprit in the denazification on June 21, 1948 by the ruling chamber of the Ludwigsburg internment camp . The hearing before the Central Appeals Chamber on April 6, 1949 resulted in his classification as a suspect , and on January 16, 1959, he was sentenced to one year in a labor camp, taking into account his internment. He was also deprived of 30% of his property and was placed on a five-year career limit. He made several petitions for clemency to the Prime Minister. For the FDP / DVP he ran in the federal election in 1957 as a candidate for the Bundestag in the Crailsheim constituency , but was not elected. He died in Ingelfingen in 1960.
