Alfred Beck (veterinarian)

Alfred Beck (born June 21, 1889 in Richen , † November 2, 1957 in Stuttgart ) was a German veterinarian.

Life

Alfred Beck studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine Stuttgart. In 1908 he became a member of the Corps Suevia Stuttgart . After completing his studies and doctorate as Dr. med. vet. 1912, he was an assistant at the Animal Hygiene Institute at the University of Freiburg until 1914 . During the First World War , in which he participated as a soldier, he passed the animal breeding inspector examination in 1917. In 1920 he obtained the qualification for the Baden civil service. In 1921 he went to the University of Leipzig's Animal Disease Institute as an assistant , passed the agricultural diploma examination, completed his habilitation in veterinary medicine and taught there until October 1927 as a private lecturer in police veterinary medicine and epidemic studies. He then returned to Freiburg as a veterinary councilor and head of department at the Animal Hygiene Institute.

In October 1931 he was appointed associate professor for anatomy and physiology of domestic animals and for veterinary medicine at the Hohenheim Agricultural University . Joined the NSDAP in May 1933 , he was rector of the Hohenheim University from 1934 to 1935. At the beginning of 1936 he was appointed director of the veterinary police station in Oberschleißheim and in April of the same year he was appointed honorary professor at the veterinary faculty of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

From May 1945 to August 1947 Beck was interned because of his membership in the NSDAP or its branches. Four years after the end of the war, he became a veterinary officer at the regional council of South Württemberg-Hohenzollern . As a result, he was employed by the State Veterinary Investigation Office in Tübingen . In July 1952 he became its director, where he was responsible for planning and setting up the new investigation office to be built in Aulendorf and was its first director.
