Alfred Borde (born May 23, 1940 - November 9, 2019 ) was a German sports scientist and university lecturer .

Life

Borde, who comes from Torgau , completed his studies in 1967 at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig with a thesis on the subject of "On the pedagogical-methodical function and use of the schoolchildren's sports textbook for soccer and basketball in the educational process" . In 1982 his PhD B was accepted at the DHfK . The title of the thesis was "On the degree of directionality of competitive sports training in long-term performance development, with special consideration of basic and advanced training".

Borde worked as a teacher at the DHfK and did research in particular on training-related content such as the development of conditional skills, basic and advanced training, the "relationship between general and specific in long-term performance development" and training in young competitive sport.

As a functionary Borde was chairman of the wrestling association of the German Democratic Republic .

In 1994, together with Günter Schnabel and Dietrich Harre, he published the book “Training Science. Achievement - Training - Competition ", which was understood as a further development of the book" Trainingslehre "by Harre, first published in 1969.

In an article published in 2013 entitled “Training or Doping?”, He commented on the success of GDR sport. In Bordes' view, these were “primarily based on a scientifically sound training course for athletes, combined with long-term performance development. ... So it was not doping, but the quality of the training that was decisive for the international success of GDR sport, ”he wrote.

He was one of the authors of the book “Erlebte Sportgeschichte - once and now”, published in 2015, which is about sport in the GDR.
