Alfred Ernst von Niessen

Alfred Ernst von Niessen (born February 4, 1901 in Berlin ; † September 28, 1978 in Wengern ) was a German engineer and a shovel manufacturer .

Life

Born as the son of the factory owner Kurt von Niessen and his wife Marie, née Bredt, Alfred Ernst von Niessen graduated from the Reform High School in Düsseldorf in 1919 . He then served in a free corps until autumn 1919 . In the winter semester of 1919/1920, he began studying mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Stuttgart , where he became a member of the Stauffia Corps . For the winter semester 1921/1922 he moved to the Technical University of Danzig , where he joined the Corps Borussia Danzig. In the summer semester of 1924 he graduated as a Dipl.-Ing. from.

After his first job as an engineer in his father's A. Bredt & Co. , sheet steel rolling mill and blade factory in Witten, he gained further professional experience at other companies. At the end of 1925 he worked for a few months in the strength laboratory of the Röchling & Co. machine factory in Wetzlar. From the beginning of 1926 until the spring of 1927 he was an operations assistant at Hasper Hütte . This was followed by a year abroad at Norddeutscher Lloyd in New York City . From the spring of 1928 to the end of 1932 he was an operations assistant and then until the end of 1934 operations manager of the Lintorf rolling mill .

At the end of 1934, von Niessen joined his father's A. Bredt & Co., a leading German company in the manufacture of shovels and spades, as co-owner and later as owner, and continued to run the company. In 1971 he merged his company with Idealspaten- und Schaufelwalzwerke vorm. Eckardt & Co. GmbH in Herdecke to Idealspaten-Bredt GmbH & Co. KG . After that he retired from the management and lived in Wengern until his death.
