Alfred Hermann Helberger (born May 23, 1871 in Eberstadt , † January 31, 1946 in Berlin ) was a German painter.

After studying in Frankfurt am Main and Karlsruhe (student of Gustav Schönleber ), he settled in Berlin in 1894, where he set up a studio on Kurfürstenstrasse. He made landscape paintings in the Netherlands and Norway. On the occasion of a trip to Paris in 1905, he was heavily influenced by French impressionism . Later works are more influenced by Fauvism .

Helberger's natural paintings follow their own style. He also created portraits. At the height of his career he was one of the most important painters in Berlin. In 1937, however, he was banned from exhibiting by the Nazis (“ Degenerate Art ”).

After the death of his Jewish wife the previous year, Helberger committed suicide in Berlin at the end of January 1946 at the age of 74. He was buried in the Heerstraße cemetery in today's Berlin-Westend district . By decision of the Berlin Senate , the last resting place of Alfred Helberger (grave location: 20-C-12/13) has been dedicated as an honorary grave of the State of Berlin since 1956 . The dedication was extended in 2016 by the now usual period of twenty years.

Helberger's works are exhibited and traded in particular in the Scandinavian region, in the Netherlands and in specialized galleries in Germany.
